My Father's Hands

A young girl shares the marvels that her father finds in their family garden as he gently shows her a worm, a beetle, a snail, a green praying mantis. "I bend closer, knowing that nothing within my father's hands will harm me."

I was touched when I first read this book because it not only captures the special feeling that a parent can share with a child when outside gardening, but it also captures the beauty in a parent/child relationship where the parent has gained the precious trust of his child.

This book has always reminded me of President Hinckley, who spoke so fondly of his father when he said that "his father never laid a hand on him except to bless him" (Sheri L. Dew, Go Forward with Faith: The Biography of Gordon B. Hinckley. Salt Lake City: Deseret Book, 1996, p.141).

We gave this book to our Daddy on Father's Day 1998.
