This is a classic, charming, short read with amazing vocabulary. I had a special interest in this story since my mother and some friends had written a musical from it when I was young. So I wanted to read the original story to my girls. As in many older stories written for children, there is ample subtle humor for all ages. Definitely a book to add to your list, from elementary school to high school and beyond!
